Day 88-Adding Adventure

I have to say living in Southern California with our gorgeous weather makes adventure so much more pleasant.   Went to the first DineLa Restaurant today, a Mediterranean restaurant called Mezze.  It was named by Los Angeles magazine as one of the top 10 new restaurants in Los Angeles.  It was actually very good, we did not have one bad thing.  Beet salad with haloumi-the croutons were fried cheese!! But somehow not heavy and greasy but light and delicious.  Hanger steak with freekeh (wheat rice…almost like my mom used to make), and lebne cheesecake.  We also added a sausage flatbread and brussel sprouts from the regular menu.  It was delicious.  I don’t even normally like brussel sprouts but it was done so well I kept eating it.  It had soujok (sausage) and cheese and yum.  The lebne cheesecake was light and airy and not too sweet, a perfect ending to the meal.  What made the dinner better, besides the fabulous company, were that the dishes were creative variations of common dishes.  Creativity in food can go very wrong since often concepts don’t translate well to taste…in this case, however, it was all right!

Tomorrow we will conquer a second restaurant, although we have not chosen the place and are being very rebellious in not having advanced reservations for a friday night….(dun dun dun! or rather dum dum dum!)

I hope everyone’s day was full of adventure… ’til tomorrow.

Day 62-Adding Adventure

We had our girls’ holiday dinner/gift exchange tonight at The Red Door in Toluca lake. The place was cool, nice bar/lounge. It has only been open a few months. They have good as well but the weird thing is the menu is not bar food menu. The food was ok. I had a shrimp fettucini which was surprisingly good. The salad was drenched in a mustardy vinaigrette, didn’t like that. Definitely too heavy of a dressing for arugula. The dessert was very good, French toast, rum, caramel, ice cream…the preggos were happy! 😉
I scored two gorgeous pillows in the gift exchange, it’s always great to see the girls and stayed out later than anticipated.
Costa rica is two months away! So excited! Need to start training for that, got to improve my cardio.
Hope everyone’s day was full of adventure…’til tomorrow.

Day 50-Adding Adventure

I had Brats Brothers yesterday…can’t say I was a big fan. It was ok. I had a cheddar infused port sausage.  But I was with two girlfriends and it’s always a good time.  We closed down two places!! we are crazy! 🙂

Also tried sauerkraut for the first time, I am sure you all think it is strange that I have never had it before, but I hadn’t.  It was good, I liked it.  Not surprising given that I am a big fan of pickles.

So my sister was a bust on the ugly sweater front, so i might have to go to the salvation army and see what they have.  I have never done that before, so there is a new adventure.

I hope everyone’s day was full of adventure…’til tomorrow.

Day 46-Adding Adventure

I set out to have a fun night of drinking and debauchery. Well I accomplished the drinking, not so much on the debauchery. Not my fault though, my friends pooped out! Went to a restaurant called Izakaya M in Sherman Oaks.  The food is decent, they had a princess roll that was made for me 🙂 But wow the service was soo bad.  We sat down and no one approached us for about 15 minutes and not even then, we had to ask!  That would have been tolerable if they were busy, then it would have been understandable. But they were not busy.  Just ridiculously incompetent!  My friend told me last time they were there the sushi chefs were so drunk one fell over!  I am all for some fun and drinking but there needs to be a modicum of professionalism.

I am pretty sure I gave up on the Walking Dead, I just didn’t get the draw.  There was no substance to it, no eye candy, just a bunch of gross zombies eating humans…rinse and repeat….

Hope everyone’s day was full of adventure…’til tomorrow.

Day 40-Adding Adventure

As promised my day involved more than food. Went to the Santa Monica pier today. It was such a nice day. And I discovered something I didn’t know…that Santa Monica had the first muscle beach!  It was the original, I had no idea.  We saw all these people using the rings, the high bars and walking tight rope almost like a circus, it was fascinating and strange.  The guy on the tight rope was very skilled, he even sat on the thin rope without falling…that is not an easy task!  I had not been to the pier in a long time, it was busy. But the beach is so pretty!  and at night the pier is really nice.  I did not ride the ferris wheel however, that is something I want to do cause I have never done that before.

Then we went to an oyster place and I spilled curry mussel broth ALL over my face and my white top.  It was such a disaster. But I am sure quite amusing!

I hope everyone’s day was full of adventure…’til tomorrow.

Day 39-adding Adventure

Ok so I get how this is practically a food blog but like I said, I can’t help it food is a big part of my life. And there are adventures in food! For example, tonight I had 2 dinners, yes 2, at two different locations.  The first dinner came rather early, mainly cause I didn’t have lunch.  I could call it a late lunch, but really it was 530.  But it was so good, at this place Mantee that I have been wanting to try for a long time now.  The Chekeefteh (steak tartar type Armenian dish) was so good, I know I will be craving this again very soon!  Everything was really good, the soujouk (sausauge) flambee’d tableside.  The salad. All delish!  And not bad prices either.

I also did look at a few apartments today, one is very promising.  A two bedroom that will save me $200 a month. (that’s $2400 for the year towards the adventure fund!)

Then a short 4 hours later, I was bored and wanted s’mores so we went to Gyu Kaku (japanese bbq).  The thought was to go have sake and s’mores.  But once we were seated it just seemed wrong not to have some garlic noodles and bistro harami steak.  I mean I didn’t want to insult them!  It was also happy hour, so total bill for the steak, edamame, the garlic noodles, sake, beer, and of course s’mores…$25.  Can’t beat that!

I promise my post tomorrow will involve much more adventure than just food.

I hope everyone’s day was full of adventure…’til tomorrow.

Day 38-Adding Adventure

Today started off and almost ended with little to no adventure. Ok really none. But then at 1130 we decided we were hungry and we didn’t want Denny’s or TGIFs. We drove around and found a sushi place that is open until 130 am!! crazy right? It wasn’t bad and people were coming in even after we sat.  definitely good to know if you are ever craving very late sushi.  There was something fun about eating sushi at midnight :).

just really wanted to share that.  I did also dance.  By myself, channeled the stripper in me 🙂  It was fun and a good workout.

Hope everyone’s day was full of adventure…’til tomorrow!
